What’s Trending in 2023? The Predictions Are In!

Every year, the team at Latzio watch closely to see which design styles are set to take the interior world by storm. This year, we’re bringing you a round-up of all the major predictions for 2023’s interior design trends and telling you which we think will stick.

Bolder & Weirder

Deezen’s predictions highlight a shift in mentality towards bolder and weirder maximalism thanks to British interior designers Jordan Cluroe and Russell Whitehead. Their assessment of the current mood: “violent […] there is anger in the world and design needs to reflect that dynamism”. After years of drastic societal change in the wake of covid-19, war, and economic uncertainty, many are turning to the home as a creative outlet. We’ve certainly seen an uptick in the bold, bright, and beautiful. Bold Monkey has swooped into quickly becoming one of our bestselling brands, alongside our vivid strawberry vases.

Dopamine Dressing

Similarly, House Beautiful predicts interior trends “embracing a bit of whimsy” with “dopamine dressing” – a term originating in fashion, meaning simply to wear the clothes that make you feel good. In an interior design sense, this means curating spaces that are a joy to step inside; playful, fun, and cosy.

Dramatic Accents with Ultramarine Blue

Good Housekeeping proposes meaningful décor accents with a bold approach, pointing to ultramarine blue as the trending colour for the upcoming year. This prediction is an interesting contrast to Pantone’s 2023 colour, Viva Magenta – but we can see the same strong, expressive energy behind both shades.

Convivial Seating Inside & Out

Livingetc predicts convivial seating as a big trend in 2023 with the return of in-person conversations – so, go on, gossip away. In a similar vein, they’re also predicting luxe outdoor lighting will be big for spring-summer 2023 as conversations move outside in the warmer weather.

Hipstoric Homes

Elledecor suggests holding onto history will continue to grow in 2023, pointing to Pinterest’s “hipstoric home trend” as people search for new ways to honour inherited, vintage and second-hand pieces in their homes – alongside new, modern pieces.

All Eyes On Sustainable

Country Living’s big prediction for 2023 is all about sustainable living, with shopping habits turning to sustainable materials and the second-hang economy. Like many others, they’re also predicting a big surge in the demand for oversized lamps and wall lights, seeking out lighting with a big impact.

Wallpaper In Unexpected Places

Veranda predicts wallpaper in bathrooms will take off in 2023 – while not a new trend, this unexpected approach to bathrooms is a creative and expressive way to play around with interior design and can produce a gorgeous dramatic result.
